Start with the exact product and destination country. Use these five checks with your EU importer before arranging a commercial shipment.

1. Confirm the destination and customs code
1. Confirma el destino y el código arancelario
Enter the product or confirmed code, Mexico as the export country and the actual EU destination country. Review tariffs, origin rules and import requirements separately.
Introduce el producto o código confirmado, México como país exportador y el país de destino dentro de la UE. Revisa por separado aranceles, reglas de origen y requisitos de importación.

2. Identifica los controles alimentarios aplicables
With the EU importer, identify the controls for the exact food. For animal-origin products, check country and establishment conditions, certificates and official controls. Shipping from Mexico is not proof of preferential Mexican origin.
Con el importador en la UE, identifica los controles del alimento concreto. Si es de origen animal, revisa las condiciones del país y del establecimiento, certificados y controles oficiales. Enviar desde México no demuestra origen preferencial mexicano.
Access2Markets: health and consumer protection ↗For covered animal-origin foods, use the antimicrobial list in Annex XVIa of Regulation 2021/405, added by Regulation 2026/1189 and applicable from 3 September 2026. The previous list in Regulation 2024/2598 was repealed. Check the exact commodity column; residue-control approval alone is not enough. For honey, ask the certifying authority to confirm the current HON model and the dates applicable to the consignment.

Sending dairy or fish preparations? Regulation 2026/1304 changed the entry rules from 13 September 2026. Ask the EU importer to check the exact product and customs code against the country, establishment and certificate requirements. It does not mean all mixed foods need the same paperwork.

These two changes were reviewed on 4 October 2026. Other source dates remain unchanged. No individual shipment, establishment or certificate was approved.
3. Check plant-health requirements where relevant
3. Revisa los requisitos fitosanitarios cuando correspondan
Identify the plant product, its form and intended use. Check whether a phytosanitary certificate, restriction or specific exemption applies. Do not treat every processed plant-derived food as a fresh plant product.
Identifica el producto vegetal, su presentación y el uso previsto. Comprueba si requiere certificado fitosanitario, si existe una restricción o si aplica una excepción específica. No trates todo alimento procesado de origen vegetal como un producto vegetal fresco.

4. Revisa por separado los alimentos con ingredientes animales y vegetales
For food combining plant ingredients with processed animal ingredients, confirm whether it is a composite product. Record ingredients, processing, source establishments and refrigeration needs. Check the certificate or attestation and entry controls that apply.
Si combina ingredientes vegetales con ingredientes procesados de origen animal, confirma si se considera un producto compuesto. Documenta ingredientes, procesamiento, establecimientos de procedencia y necesidad de refrigeración. Revisa el certificado o declaración y los controles de entrada aplicables.

5. Confirma los controles de entrada antes de contratar el transporte
Ask the importer whether a designated border control post is required, which documents and advance notifications are needed, and whether additional controls cover the product-country combination. Not every food follows the same border route.
Pide al importador que confirme si se requiere un puesto de control fronterizo designado, qué documentos y notificaciones previas se necesitan y si hay controles adicionales para la combinación de producto y país. No todos los alimentos siguen la misma ruta de entrada.
